Pieces of Us

Memory defines and walks beside us, in an intertwining dance of identity.
Happiness peeks out at us, here and there, never expected when it is true, like a deer sighting in the woods.
Depression breeds a thousand ill behaviors, all of which deny that they are ineffectual responses to a starved soul.
Humor leavens the load we bear by letting us know that we're all in this maze together, and that it's that commonality that will eventually redeem us.
Love responds to our call for help, and let's us know that what we are, is enough.
Grief distorts what we were, and reminds us of what we have lost, those parts of ourselves that we never, ever get back.
Death hovers over all, just down the road on our journey, always just a bit out of sight but never far away.
